Gardener Must Haves

As a suburban gardener, I have experienced some challenges on my gardening journey. From having to work with very little room, making the garden neighborhood friendly, keeping away animals or even kids out of it. I came up with 5 must haves that will help keep your garden an enjoyment rather than a nuisance!

Must Haves

Farmers Defense Gear

Farmers Defense Gear – Working out in the garden can leave you susceptible to bug bites, harmful UV rays, and skin irritation from scratchy plants. That’s where Farmers Defense sleeves come into play!

Honestly, I wish I would have had these sooner! They are beautiful sleeves that provide you protection from the sun, and keeps your arms covered to avoid skin irritations. These sleeves feel silky smooth with their moisture wicking technology so they are a more comfortable option compared to a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt when you’re out in the heat.

Farmers Defense also has other protective gear such as aprons that I am so excited to have since I’m always lacking pockets! They also have super cute hats to keep you cool and out of the sun while working in the garden and summer heat.

I highly recommend checking this company out if you want some protection in your garden. You can use code OURFAITHFILLEDHOMESTEAD to receive 10% off your order.

Garden Harvest Baskets

Garden harvest baskets are one hundred percent a garden must have! There is nothing that annoys me more than when I head out to the garden, seeing everything I need to harvest, and then I have to figure out how to carry it all into the house.

I personally love using old baskets that I have accumulated over the years. I think they are pretty and make for great photo ops. However, I do wish I had something that was water proof so I could wash my harvests outside. Nothing worse that a counter covered in dirt and bugs!

I’ve linked a few baskets below that I personally have my eyes on and would be great for harvesting and washing veggies outdoors before coming inside.

Garden Tools

I’m going to be honest and say that I didn’t think having a specific set of garden tools was a big deal. I mean, I plenty of tools laying around that I can make do with, right?

Of course, as my children get older, the more I seem to lose all my tools that I had from previous years. So, I highly recommend having a set of tools designated for your garden.

A garden tool set like this is perfect for a suburban gardener. It even comes with a bag just for your tools so you are never misplacing them. I think this is super handy to have right by the door to easily grab when you head out to the garden.

Garden Hose

Having a garden hose specifically for the garden is so important when gardening!

We have two water spickets on the outside of our house, one in the back and one in the garage. For the longest time it was a hassle always having to go back and forth with the hose from the garden to the garage.

We finally caved and got a designated hose for the garden. It’s easy to maneuver, can reach the entire garden without struggle, and its super durable.

I highly, highly, recommend a garden hose specifically for the garden.

Skedaddle Outdoor Spray

Really, this should be at the very top of this list. Bug spray that is actually good for you!? Yes, it’s possible with Skedaddle Outdoor Spray from Noelle’s Naturals!

This spray is made using non-toxic ingredients and there’s no harmful chemicals. Honestly, you may already have some of the ingredients growing in your garden.

Last year, our garden got wayyy out of control and ended up a mosquito play ground. I’m not even kidding it was infested! I am so glad that I have this bug spray that doesn’t choke me out when I use it and I feel comfortable using it on my children. Now, I don’t have to worry about being covered in bug bites or smelling like chemicals. I’ve listed the ingredients below that you can find on their website.

Skedaddly Outdoor Spray Ingredients: Organic Yarrow Extract (organic cane alcohol, organic yarrow flower), Distilled Water, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Vegetable Glycerin, Essential Oils (Citronella, Lemongrass, Geranium, Cedarwood), Sunflower Lecithin, Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

I’m sure there are other must haves that could be added to this list. If you have any items that you think should be added, please let me know!
