I don’t know about you, but one of my absolute favorite features of my garden are the fresh perennial herbs that pop up as soon as the weather allows.

I love having fresh chives, thyme, oregano, and oh my goodness just a hint of dill will send me into big heart shaped eyes emoji mode! Dill is by far my favorite herb, in case you didn’t know.

This year, with the abundance of herbs, and the unfortunate need to go gluten free, I was trying to come up with something tasty. Low and behold, a couple blocks of cream cheese and all them tasty herbs in the garden, I came up with this Herby Cream Cheese.

You may be thinking, isn’t this just a simple cheese ball? And you would be right. However, I’m still sharing because the combination of fresh herbs, cream cheese, and bacon spread over thinly sliced chicken breasts was absolutely to die for! Oh my goodness I can still taste it!

I truly think the hardest part of this recipe is trying to decide on what herbs you want to use.

To be honest, you can use just about whatever the heck you want!

My sister in law made a comment about chive blossoms looking like lavender and that sent me into an idea of honey and lavender cream cheese. YUM!

But that’s a recipe for another day.

For this recipe I used some of my most abundant fresh herbs – Oregano, Chive Blossoms, Garlic Scapes, Chives and a sprig of Dill. From the pantry I used some garlic powder, salt, and white pepper. For a little razzle dazzle I used some chopped bacon, of course!

And as insanely delicious as this recipe is, it is so stinkin simple! Just mix all the above ingredients with a softened 8 oz block of cream cheese and that’s it!

You can use this as a topping like I did on some thinly sliced chicken breasts. I just salt and peppered the chicken, and smothered the cream cheese on top. Baked it in the oven for about 20 minutes at 375 and then 10 minutes at 425 and paired it with some mashed potatoes.

To know I’m not exaggerating when I say this is good, my husband took a bite and said “wow that’s good”. Ladies, you know that means it’s a winner!

OR you can easily shape it into a ball, wrap with saran wrap and let chill in the fridge for 2 hours and use it as a dip or spread.

I personally used a little of the leftovers and made little bacon roll ups as little appetizers while dinner cooked. If I had more, I could have sufficed with just that for dinner.

Herby Cream Cheese

However you choose to use your Herby Cream Cheese I know it will be a crowd pleaser! Feel free to use whatever herbs you have on hand and use it your way! Either way, I hope you enjoy this herby cream cheese as much as I did!
