How to Get Free Homeschool Curriculum

When we started homeschooling last year, I was pretty confused and a little overwhelmed with what homeschool curriculum to choose for my then preschooler, 2nd and 3rd grader.

We were totally new to homeschool as I had pulled our kids from public school earlier than had planned after a series of threats at the school. You can read all about that here.

After learning all the different ways you can homeschool and how to save money doing so, we chose to go with a free curriculum.

If you are choosing one of these free curriculums, I do suggest having a few items on hand. These won’t be used just for curriculum but for many things in your homeschool journey.

You will want a good printer or have a print shop print for you. Also three ring binders, a three ring hole punch, or a spiral binding machine and possibly a laminator.

Of course this is really all on your preference and budget how deep you want to get into it. I however am a paper and pencil kind of person so these were a must for our homeschool.

Let’s get into it!

Free Homeschool Curriculum

There are a many free curriculums out there, especially if you are on Pinterest, you can find so many incredible resources for your homeschool.

Easy Peasy Homeschool

Easy Peasy is a great option for an all in one homeschool curriculum. They have FREE lessons in all subjects from kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. They also have a separate high school page and that is free as well. This curriculum is that there are so many subjects to choose from, it’s truly an all in one. Just pick the level for your child and go with it.

Discovery K12

Discovery K12 is an all online curriculum offering grades K through 12. You can sign up for a free student account and choose to use all subjects or pick and choose what you would like your child to learn.

They have 180 days of lessons in 7 subjects and they allow you to start at the very beginning or choose your starting place. The also include built in assessments and quizzes after each unit so you can review where your child is.

The Good and the Beautiful

The Good and the Beautiful offers a few options when it comes to their curriculum. You have the opportunity to purchase physical copies of their math and language arts lessons for levels K – 8th but they also offer FREE downloads for these as well.

All you have to do is provide an email address and they provide a free download. So far I have downloaded and printed 6 different courses and they are completely the same as the physical copies you can purchase.

The Good and the Beautiful also offers a wide range of science, history, and writing unit studies that can be purchased.

As a parent, I love how simple this curriculum is for me to open and teach right away. It is also a faith based curriculum, which I personally love.

Early American History – Fields of Daisies

Fields of Daisies has multiple FREE history curriculums to choose from. What’s great about these curriculums is that they are super easy to teach all ages at once.

We are currently using Early American History. I love that she has everything laid out for you and gives so many options to supplement the lessons – coloring pages, maps, book lists, youtube videos, facts, etc.

You can choose from far back as Ancient Civilizations and the Old Testament to Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to The Middle Ages to Early and Modern American History.

Not only does she offer these but there’s American Girl history too which I love as I hope to be able to use it with my daughter once she reaches older elementary age.

Now she does offer a PDF version of her lessons that I personally purchased for only $3. You can find that here.

Art Curriculum

Freedom Homeschooling compiled this super helpful list of FREE art curriculum that I came across and will be putting to use myself once winter comes and we find ourselves couped up in the house.

Guest Hollow

Guest Hollow is a wonderful website that has many homeschooling resources. They have many free resources including two free science courses, free printables and free books.

They also have an abundance of curriculums, courses, books, printables and more available for purchase.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is another all online homeschool curriculum and offers a variety of subjects and electives. This curriculum is 100% FREE and is super easy to open and go. I’ve even done some basic lessons myself just to see how it all works and I think if you are looking for an online program this one hits home.

More FREE Resources

I know it can feel overwhelming wanting a curriculum that is all in one and ready to go, but don’t underestimate the power of piecing together your own curriculum.

Your local library is a great place to find FREE books to base homeschool lessons on, especially unit studies like weather, butterflies, gardens, rock formations, animal kingdoms, etc.

Currently for science we are learning all about the human body! I found this book at Ollies. There are 16 sections so we are going over each section one week at a time. I have found tons of free printables on Pinterest that I am able to help illustrate and teach to my younger children. For my older children I am able to go more in depth with the help of youtube, printables, and books.

The beauty of homeschool is that you can do whatever fits your family and your learning style. Don’t be afraid to step outside the box and get creative!
