I have been growing lavender for quite some time, but this was the first time I have harvested and dried it. With the amount I had dried I knew I wanted to try my hand at making some homemade goodies.

Originally, I wanted to make homemade soap, but I just didn’t have on hand some of the ingredients at the time so I searched for something else. I found this sugar scrub idea from momdot.com and had to try it!

I’ve made body sugar scrubs in the past with ingredients like honey, coffee grounds, coconut oil, and brown sugar. It turned out amazing, but it ended up being incredibly difficult to get out of the jar. I ended up pitching it because a glass jar in a slippery shower was not the smartest idea!

This recipe though was so simple to make! The ratio of coconut oil to sugar was just right for the perfect sugary scrub without being to packed together.

My four year old helped me make this recipe. I think he had much more fun actually using it and scrubbing his hands over making it.

I have to say this smells amazing and leaves your hands feeling so soft and refreshed!

Here’s What You Will Need

1 cup Coconut Oil – melted

2 cups Sugar – I used cane sugar but any sugar works

10 drops Lemon Essential Oil

10 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Handful Dried Lavender – flowers & leaves – optional but makes it pretty

16 oz Wide Mouth Mason Jar

Here’s What To Do

Start by pouring your melted coconut oil into a medium size bowl. Pour in your sugar and mix until well combined.

Next, add your 10 drops each of lemon and lavender oil into sugar mixture.

If you choose, now add in your dried lavender and make sure it is mixed through.

Once well combined, you can scoop sugar scrub into a wide mouth mason jar, top with a sprinkle of lavender, and cover with lid.

If you are giving as a gift, you can tie a ribbon or even some twine around the jar to fancy it up a bit!

Some Things To Know

Size it to your liking – The original recipe called for half the amount of these products. When I purchased my jars, I bought them a little bigger knowing I have other projects I am making. So, I doubled the recipe and it worked perfectly. If you are planning on making multiple jars, you can even double or quadruple this recipe and divide up the mixture when filling the jars.

Use Plant Therapy Essential Oils – I found Plant Therapy when I was looking for a quality equivalent yet less expensive alternative to Young Living. I love these oils and the company! They are a family owned and operated business in Idaho and skip all the mumbo jumbo of middlemen (MLM) so they can keep their prices affordable. I absolutely love this company and can’t say enough good things about them!

You don’t need need the fresh/dried lavender – You don’t necessarily need to use the dried lavender like I did but it adds some fragrance and beauty to the scrub. If you do though, you want to use the leaves as well because there is more fragrance than the flowers. I learned this from an herbalist and was actually very surprised! Even so, the oils are enough if you are looking to add some fragrance.

You can use different scents – One thing I love about this recipe is that there are SO MANY different scents you can use! For example, if you want a fresh clean scent you can use orange and lemon oils and add some lemon and orange zest to make it pretty. This is a recipe that is truly customizable to your liking!

This really is such a great homemade gift for family and friends for the holidays, birthdays, or whenever! Honestly, with having most of these items in the kitchen, you can make this whenever and in about 3 minutes. Super easy, smells amazing, and leaves hands feeling super soft!
